PETALING JAYA: The government’s top adviser Daim Zainuddin yesterday met with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang during a visit to Terengganu.
Daim, a close confidante of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, also held talks with Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
“We happily shared many stories together. May Tun always be in good health and in Allah’s blessings,” Hadi said in a Twitter post accompanied by pictures of the meeting.
Daim was the economic adviser when Hadi became Terengganu menteri besar in 1999, following the general election which strengthened PAS in the east coast.
The PAS-led Terengganu government had at the time sued the federal government and national oil firm Petronas over non-payment of oil royalty that belonged to the state. Putrajaya had then paid the money through its own agencies, calling it “wang ehsan”.
PAS kept the state for a term before it was recaptured by Barisan Nasional.
Early this month, Terengganu said it received some RM1 billion in oil royalty payment from Putrajaya last year. - FMT
