RANTAU POLLS | Umno acting president Mohamad Hasan wants his BN colleagues to stop touting him as a future prime minister.
Mohamad said this would create unhealthy speculation, and be detrimental to his political survival.
"Please don't say that. I hope my friends, colleagues, won't say that.
"The more you say that, the faster people will kill me.
"Not just outsiders, but even people in the party will sharpen their knives to stab me," Mohamad said.
He was responding to BN leaders and campaigners touting him as a future prime minister during ceramah for the Rantau by-election.
Among those who have touted Mohamad as prime ministerial material are Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, and former MIC president Dr S Subramaniam.
Mohamad said if he heard of such things in his presence, he would tell them to be silent.
He said it had never crossed his mind to be prime minister, and that only God knows the future.
Meanwhile, Mohamad said former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak had also called to warn him to be careful of future attacks on him.
However, he said Najib did not say what the attacks were.
At a ceramah in Rantau last night, Najib claimed there would be nine issues brought against Mohamad, although he did not mention any specifics. - Mkini
