A chauffeur has claimed that his employer, the company that organised the 2017 Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (Lima) exhibition, had failed to pay his salary and that he was unfairly terminated from his job.
Noor Hisham Amad, 38, told Malaysiakini that the company owed him about RM9,000 - comprising one month's salary, claims and compensations from since August last year.
He said he had filed a report at Brickfields police station on March 27.
According to the report sighted by Malaysiakini, Hisham said that in August last year, he was paid RM3,500 in cash for his May and June salaries in addition to a bank transfer of RM1,000.
However, he claims the company still owes him RM9,839.91
Hisham said he started working for the company in 2015, just before the company got the contract to organise Lima 2017.
On his termination, Hisham said he had gone to the employer's office in September last year to seek an explanation on the company's outstanding EPF contributions.
"At the office, a personal assistant to my employer handed me a letter to sign. I didn't know what the exact contents in it were as I can't read English. But I signed the letter.
He said the personal assistant then informed him the company had had a new management for several months.
"When I went home, I showed the letter to my friend who told me that it was actually a resignation letter that said, 'I wish to tender my resignation with immediate effect.'
Hisham said he has reported his case to the Labour Department with a date being set for it to be heard by the Industrial Court.
Malaysiakini has contacted the Brickfields police as well as the company's personal assistant for their comments. - Mkini
