Who will become the prime minister should a grand coalition, as proposed by BN secretary-general Annuar Musa, is formed to resolve the country's political paralysis?
This was among the questions raised by DAP Kepong's parliamentarian Lim Lip Eng in a statement today.
He particularly raised concern if any strings would be attached for Umno to get onboard such a grand coalition.
"Grand coalition or grand condition? When he suggested to form a grand coalition, it is a RM 2.6 billion question with everyone asking whether it will be a grand coalition or one with a grand condition to place another Umno politician as the next prime minister of Malaysia," he said.
"Will it be ex-deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi with 47 corruption charges or the return of former prime minister and convicted felon Najib Abdul Razak? Will Annuar Musa himself be the deputy prime minister?" asked Lim.
"Annuar Musa should, therefore, elaborate clearly who the prime minister-designate is for this proposed grand coalition in the next general election," he said.
"The people are also interested to know which party will call the shots once this proposed grand coalition is formed, Umno or PAS or a new party? Or is Annuar Musa suggesting to dissolve Umno and PAS in order to form a grand coalition?"
"Is Annuar also admitting that the current backdoor government coalition of BN, Perikatan Nasional and Muafakat Nasional has failed and that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin lacks the numbers to stay in power, hence the call for a grand coalition?' asked Lim further.
Yesterday, Annuar pledged to organise the formation of a grand coalition involving at least 12 to 13 political parties.
He called for the consolidation of parties involving BN, Perikatan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sabah and Gabungan Rakyat Sarawak, saying their member parties had proved they could work effectively within the framework of the PN government.
"Some parties that are independent or (willing to) reject Pakatan Harapan can also be brought together," added Annuar.
He named Parti Warisan Sabah, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (led by ex-premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad), the Muda group led by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and parties unrepresented in the Dewan Rakyat such as Berjasa, the Indian Progressive Front, Makkal Sakthi and Parti Cinta Malaysia. - Mkini
