Minister: RM2.6m for Penggerak Komuniti Tempatan activities this year

The government has allocated RM2.6 million this year to carry out programmes under the Housing and Local Government Ministry's Penggerak Komuniti Tempatan (PeKT) initiative in three opposition-led states, according to its minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Zuraida was previously linked to NGO Penggerak Komuniti Negara, comprising mostly former PKR supporters, and PeKT was reportedly launched in July prior to her formal move to join Bersatu.

"For the year 2020, programme executions is only for four months, from September to December with an allocation of RM2,663,020," the Ampang MP said in a parliamentary written reply to Wong Kah Woh (Harapan-Ipoh Timur)

For next year, it was reported that the government had allocated RM8.6 million under Budget 2021 for PeKT activities.

Zuraida, who is also a Bersatu supreme council member, said to date, 261 local activists have been appointed across 46 local governments to carry out activities that would improve their respective communities.

Among others, she said their role includes disseminating information on the ministry's policies and initiatives; creating a united and competitive sustainable community; offer consultations on community health and welfare and collect feedback for any planned project.

Selangor Bersatu chief Abdul Rashid Asari yesterday reportedly said PeKT will represent the Perikatan Nasional government in opposition-ruled states and its members will be paid an allowance of RM2,000 a month for their services.

The Selat Kelang assemblyperson also reportedly said Selangor PeKT will appoint 288 members to be drawn from PN parties. - Mkini
