Covid-19 deaths (Jan 1): 25 reported fatalities, total at 31,487

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported a total of 25 new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Dec 31), bringing the cumulative death toll to 31,487.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, four died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Selangor recorded the highest number of new deaths at 10.

The remaining deaths were in Penang (5), Perak (3), Terengganu (3), Johor (1), Kedah (1), Pahang (1) and Sabah (1).

No new deaths were reported in Kelantan, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

An average of 34 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 28, indicating a downtrend.

As of yesterday, there were 41,221 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 12.1 percent from the 46,880 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 35.3 percent from 63,741.

From the 3,573 new cases yesterday, a total of 141 of them could be traced to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.

From the cluster-linked cases, 93 (66.0 percent) were from workplaces while 29 (20.6 percent) were from detention centres.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to community transmissions (9 cases, 6.4 percent), education institutions (4 cases, 2.8 percent), imported (3cases, 2.1 percent), religious events (2 cases, 1.4 percent) and high-risk groups such as old folks homes (1 case,  0.7 percent).
