Amanah Youth today revealed that it is jealous of Muda’s presence in the national political arena.
Kelantan Amanah Youth leader Hazmi Hassan said because of this, the party’s youth wing will always demand the same rights when it comes to seat allocation.
“Today we see Amanah Youth as if it has been isolated. When we ask for a Grade A seat, we are said to be whining,” he said while debating the president’s speech at the Amanah national convention in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan today.
In describing Amanah Youth’s struggles to gain coveted seats, Hazmi (above) compared it to the efforts of Muslims in ancient times to perform prayers.
“Did you know that before we (Muslims) could pray five times a day, we actually had to pray 50 times a day?
“That is why we will never tire of asking for Grade A seats. We need the youth to make our party younger.
“We are asking within the proper boundary, we asked from our party, not from other parties. We are jealous of Muda because we love our party,” he added.
Younger politicians for the times
Hazmi admitted that the youth wing cannot compare to senior Amanah leaders when it comes to the political struggle.
However, he said the politics of today is different from the past and young leaders should be given the opportunity to contest in the upcoming general election.
“Yes, the phase of (the senior Amanah leaders) were truly difficult, we cannot afford to repeat the politics of those times – getting jailed, stripped and accused. But today’s politics has changed.
“We also want to join in (the fight) with the party. Yes, we can be loyal to the party,” he said.
Hazmi recalled how he was asked to contest in a “Grade F seat” against a strong opponent - PAS’ Mohamad Amar Nik Abdullah - in Panchor, Kelantan for the 14th general election and lost the seat along with the deposit.
“But I am loyal to the party. We are asking (for seats) because we want this party to be more youthful,” he added.
Hazmi said it is not impossible for young candidates to shake things up in the political scene if they were given the chance to participate in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
“Give us independence and the chance to build this party we love and don’t worry, our loyalty is undivided.
“We are loyal and will remain here,” he said.
Hazmi added that the political arena is in dire need of fresh faces.
Prioritise Amanah wings
Meanwhile, a Malacca Amanah representative urged the party leadership to ensure Pakatan Harapan allocates parliamentary seats to Amanah’s youth and women’s wing in GE15 before they give them to their allies.
Raising his concerns about this, Ahmad Azri Abdullah hoped the same consideration would also be given to the Amanah young women’s wing.
Muda, led by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, had previously expressed an interest in joining the Harapan coalition for GE15.
The party also said they intend to contest 15 parliamentary seats in GE15, including in Sabah and Sarawak. - Mkini
