Carsome, customer resolve stolen vehicle suit

Carsome Certified’s country general manager, Alan Cheah, says every car sold goes through a tedious vetting process.

PETALING JAYA: An online second-hand car e-commerce platform sued for negligence over the sale of a stolen vehicle has resolved the suit with its customer.

Carsome Sdn Bhd said it has resolved the case with the customer by way of mutual agreement.

“We have refunded the customer in full, including for all improvements made by the customer to the car,” the country general manager of Carsome Certified, Alan Cheah, told FMT.

Carsome has resolved the matter with the said customer.

Besides that, Carsome said, it gave the customer vouchers for the purchase of another car and helped arrange for a new loan.

“The customer has made another purchase from us,” said Cheah, adding this reflected the good faith between the two parties.

In September 2021, it was reported that the customer had filed a negligence suit against Carsome and Maybank Islamic Bhd over the purchase of a vehicle that was reportedly stolen.

Cheah explained that every car sold on Carsome goes through a tedious inspection process. This includes working with various agencies like Puspakom, the road transport department (JPJ), insurance partners and e-Auto to verify that a car has not been tampered with. - FMT
