PETALING JAYA: Police are probing an incident early yesterday morning in which a foreigner was allegedly assaulted by two Malaysians.
A video of the incident taken by an acquaintance of the complainant showed the two locals, who wore t-shirts with the word “Security”, purportedly slapping the foreigner on the face. The men had also allegedly hurled vulgarities and threats at the man.
The incident was said to have taken place at Jalan Tun Razak around 3am.
Wangsa Maju district police chief Ashari Abu Samah confirmed that a report had been lodged and said the investigating officer had interviewed the complainant at noon today.
He told FMT that the case is being probed under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation, respectively.
Section 323 carries a jail term of up to one year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both upon conviction, while Section 506 provides for up to two years in jail, a fine or both.
Asked about what sparked the incident, Ashari said the complainant himself had no idea why the suspects had suddenly slapped him.
“Efforts to trace and arrest the two suspects are ongoing.” - FMT
