Drug case suspect died while receiving treatment - Ipoh police

 

A senior citizen who was arrested in connection with a drug case at Jalan Carey, Ipoh, on Saturday, died at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital today.

Ipoh District Police chief ACP Yahaya Hassan said the 62-year-old male suspect was found to be in an unwell state about 9am when he was due to be brought from the Jelapang Police Station to the Magistrates’ Court to be charged.

"The police contacted the hospital and the detainee was sent to the hospital in an ambulance," he said in a statement today.

Yahaya said the detainee was confirmed dead following emergency treatment about 10.30am, adding that the case was being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit on Deaths in Custody under the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department.

"An autopsy will be done tomorrow to find out the cause of death," he said.
