KUALA LUMPUR: The magistrates’ court has granted former Chinese association leader Yeo Kwi Seng time to review a cautioned statement he furnished to the police in connection with a criminal charge brought against him.
Yeo, the former chief of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall (KLSCAH), was charged with insulting the modesty of lawyer Veronica Wong in May.
Wong, 52, had lodged a police report against Yeo in June last year for allegedly sending her porn clips via WhatsApp between May 23 and June 16, 2021.
Yeo, 69, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred under Section 509 of the Penal Code.
His counsel, Vam Shir Mooi, informed the court during case mention today that Yeo needed time to review the statement recorded by the police during their investigation.
Magistrate Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim set Nov 18 for the next case mention.
The case was prosecuted by deputy public prosecutor Nor Aisyah Mohd Zanyun.
Wong, who is the daughter of MCA stalwart Wong Mook Leong, and lawyer Goh Han Koon, who is holding a watching brief for her, were present in court today. - FMT
