PAS man loses defamation suit against Amanah veep

PAS ulama council member Dusuki Rani (left) was ordered to pay RM11,000 in costs to Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

PETALING JAYA: The Shah Alam sessions court has dismissed a PAS leader’s defamation suit against Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa over comments Mujahid made on Twitter.

Mujahid said the suit was filed over a Twitter post in November 2020 where he hit out at PAS ulama council member Dusuki Rani for claiming that Tabung Haji assets had been sold to non-Muslims.

In his post, he had accused Dusuki of speaking “lies” and “slander”.

Mujahid said the court had ruled that his posting was not slanderous as evidence given during the trial proved that Tabung Haji assets were not sold to non-Muslims.

He said the court ruled that he had successfully raised the defence of fair comment as his remarks were made based on “true and proven facts”.

Mujahid said the court also ruled that as a former religious affairs minister, Mujahid had the responsibility of refuting false claims involving Tabung Haji so that the pilgrim fund was not wrongly perceived as manipulating the assets of Muslims.

Dusuki was ordered to pay RM11,000 in costs to the Parit Buntar MP. - FMT
