Harapan presidential council to discuss Muda’s application tomorrow

The application by Muda to join Pakatan Harapan will be discussed in the coalition’s presidential council meeting tomorrow.

DAP national organising secretary Steven Sim told Malaysiakini that the meeting would take place at 3pm, at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

Apart from discussing Muda’s application to join Harapan, Sim said the framework of the new committee which was tasked to negotiate with Muda is also expected to be finalised tomorrow.

PKR has been deemed as the biggest obstacle for Muda to join Harapan after both parties clashed in Larkin during the Johor state election in March.

Earlier, PKR vice-president Chang Lih Kang described Muda’s application to join Harapan as “too late”, while suggesting the newly formed party become an electoral partner to the coalition to avoid multi-cornered fights.

Amanah Youth recently complained they felt marginalised as Muda might be given “grade A” seats for GE15.

However, both Amanah and DAP’s top leaders welcomed Muda’s application.

Another agenda that would be discussed tomorrow is the common logo for GE15, said a member of the presidential council who requested anonymity.

The source said the progress of seat distribution will also be presented to the presidential council.

“So far, the negotiations have been smooth for most of the seats, with only some seats in Sabah, Sarawak and the east coast states left,” said the source.

Last month, Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim said all parties in the coalition decided to use a common logo for GE15, but the logo would be “slightly modified”.

PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli added that Harapan is expected to settle seat negotiations by Sept 30. - Mkini
