PETALING JAYA: PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad says its representatives in the government will suggest that the 15th general election (GE15) should not be held this year.
“There is no need to hold GE15, especially when it is (nearing) the flood season, we already know there will be floods and it will make it difficult to manage the election,” Bernama quoted Idris, who is also the religious affairs minister, as saying.
Idris said PAS would not dissolve the state legislative assembly in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu until March 2023 when the term ends.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that matters pertaining to the upcoming GE15 would be among the items to be discussed at the Cabinet meeting tomorrow.
Two days ago, Gerakan president Dominic Lau said it was unlikely that the next general election would be held this year, citing the lack of time.
Lau also said that a number of PAS and Pakatan Harapan-led states would not back the dissolution of Parliament.
Last month, however, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan claimed that Ismail had given his commitment that the coming general election would not be held in 2023. - FMT
