(FMT) – Police have recorded statements from several individuals as part of their investigation into alleged defamatory remarks made by blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin against former Bukit Aman commercial crime investigation director Amar Singh.
“We opened the investigation under Section 500 for defamation and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act,” said Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Yahaya Othman.
“We have recorded statements from several individuals, including the complainants.”
However, Yahaya did not divulge details on whose statements were recorded.
On Aug 12, Amar and two other retired police deputy directors lodged police reports against Raja Petra, who is believed to be living abroad.
The blogger had alleged in his portal, Malaysia Today, that Amar’s girlfriend was present at a raid on former prime minister Najib Razak’s home in May 2018 and left with one of the bags seized by the police.
Amar denied the allegation, saying that there were detailed records of what the police had seized and that no civilian was present during the raid.
He said there were plenty of photos and videos which were taken throughout the operation.
