Croatian climber rescued from Mt Kinabalu may face action

 Sabah Parks has lodged a police report over Mauro Persic’s use of an unofficial route and climbing without a permit.

Sabah Parks director Maklarin Lakim previously said that Mauro Persic did not have a climbing permit and had used a village route rather than the official route.

A Croatian national who was rescued after falling while climbing Mount Kinabalu may face action for using an unofficial route and climbing without a permit.

Sabah tourism, culture and environment minister Jafry Ariffin said Sabah Parks had lodged a police report over the incident involving Mauro Persic, 46, who is still receiving treatment.

“Police and Sabah Parks are looking into what action should be taken. We will deal with it once he has recovered,” Bernama quoted him as saying in Kota Kinabalu today.

Jafry said the climber could be fined, depending on the outcome of the authorities’ investigation.

According to Daily Express, Persic was reported missing while climbing Mount Kinabalu on Sept 6. He was found safe the next day and successfully brought down by a team of 43 rescuers on Sept 11.

He sustained injuries to his right leg and ribs, as well as minor wounds to his hands. He received initial treatment at Timpohon Gate and was later taken to Ranau Hospital for further treatment.
