KUALA KUBU BARU: Firefighters rescued 14 people, including a child, after they were trapped in the middle of a river following a sudden water surge at Sungai Pertak here yesterday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 5.03pm.

He said a team of five personnel, along with a fire engine from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue station, was dispatched to the scene.

"The operation commander reported that 14 people were trapped in the middle of the river, comprising 13 adults and one child.

"Duty personnel, assisted by the Batang Kali Volunteer Fire Brigade, used a river crossing technique to bring all victims safely to the riverbank," he said in a statement today. - NST
