Be appreciative, Dong Zong told

Umno man urges Dong Zong to discard racial sentiments and their attitude of opposing every policy implemented by the government.
PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader has urged the United Chinese School Committee’s Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) to appreciate the government’s efforts in developing Chinese schools.
Cheras division chief Syed Ali Alhabshee said Dong Zong should discard racial sentiments and their attitude of opposing every policy implemented by the Barisan Nasional government.
“Is it not enough that Mandarin is continued to be used in Chinese schools?” he asked in his blog today.
“Dong Zong should be grateful there there are no Malay organisations that are a threat to the association,” he added.
He criticised Dong Zong for rejecting the Malaysia Education Blueprint launched by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Sept 6.
“We do not oppose their fight for Chinese education but use proper channels when we are not pleased. But on the education blueprint issue Dong Zong is being rude.
“Dong Zong is always opposing whatever is being done by the government although Chinese education is not neglected,” he added.
Syed Ali said the government had never neglected both Chinese and Tamil education.
He assured Dong Zong that there was no need to be afraid of the implementation of education blueprint because the government would not neglect the interests of other races.
Syed Ali also urged the association to refrain from politicising the issue and avoid affecting the country’s education system and racial unity.
“Of course we are disappointed with Dong Zong because the government extended all sorts of help to them but the majority of Chinese rejected BN in the last general election.
“Don’t oppose everything that the government is doing for the national education policy. Try to see the good in the system and be appreciative of the government,” Syed Ali said.
On Tuesday, Dong Zong said it was fighting to ensure that the vernacular schools were preserved under the education blueprint 2013-2025.
Dong Zong deputy chairman Chow Siew Hon said there was nothing racist in the association’s demand to preserve vernacular education.
The association launched its current campaign because the master plan was silent on the status of vernacular education.
