Don’t mislead people, Wan Junaidi tells Waytha

Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaffar has chided his peer, P Waythamoorthy saying:"if criminals don't listen to him then don't teach police how to do their job".
BATU PAHAT:  Deputy Minister P.Waythamoorthy has been urged to call on suspected criminals regardless of race to surrender their firearms to enable the police to nab them without using force.
Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tunku Jaafar said this was to protect their rights as suspected criminals.
“If the deputy minister can howl at the criminals irrespective of race whether Malays, Chinese or Indians to lay down arms tomorrow, we’ll arrest them without using firearms.
“If the criminals do not listen to him, don’t teach the police how to do their work,” he told reporters after closing the fourth Graduate Civil Defence National Assembly at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia here yesterday.
Wan Junaidi was responding to calls by several cabinet ministers for the former Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) chairman to quit his post for speaking out against the police over the shooting of suspected secret society members in Penang, recently.
“The police face daunting tasks in flushing out armed criminals. A wrong step can cost them their lives, so what choice do they have when faced with such situation?
“A deputy minister should not fall out of line in addressing crime.
“Don’t mislead the people that a person in the government is supporting criminals,” said Wan Junaidi.
Wan Junaid is the third minister in a week to chastise Waythamoorthy for his remarks on the police killing of suspected criminals in Penang last week.
Earlier Home and Defence Ministers, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Hishamuddin Hussein had respectively slammed Waythamoorthy.
Both had asked him to quit his government post if he was unhappy with the contentious killing in Penang.
