‘I thought robbery only happens at night’

Robbery in broad daylight is now common in Malaysia and it is drawing flak from netizens.
VIDEO INSIDE
PETALING JAYA: A video of a robbery that went viral on social networks since Sunday has spurred Malaysians to ask who is to be blamed for the problem?
A video first published by a Facebook group called the Malaysian Crime Awareness Campaign showed men in ski masks robbing someone after forcing the vehicle off the road, into a ditch.
The victim, who appears to be a man clad only in a red shirt and underwear, was seen getting out of his vehicle once the assailants fled in two cars and a pickup truck.
The loss suffered by the victim is still unknown but apparently the assailants also stole the victim’s pants.
Traffic at the area came to a halt after shots were fired by one of the five robbers. Some of them were also armed with machetes.
The fifty-second video clip was recorded by someone in a vehicle on the opposite side of the highway.
The exact location is still unknown but it is believed to have taken place on a busy road either in the Klang Valley or Johor Baru a few weeks ago.
Concerned netizens have poured scorn on the Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM), alleging that they are incompetent in curbing crime.
M Eswaran left a comment on the Facebook video saying, “Policemen, where are you? What happened to the frequent patrol?”
Another viewer, Calvin Chua, mocked with the message, “crime is blatantly taking place during broad daylight without fear of the consequences.”
“Oh, I thought evil spirits and crime only comes up and happens during the night. In Malaysia, anytime pun boleh (can). Malaysia boleh!” he said.
Another user S Sivanesan said, “I was once proud of Malaysia as it is a peaceful country. Now, it is infested with human pests and scumbags. We need change, new laws like hudud. Give the police power to shoot these goons down”.
Another Facebook user, Marc Leon, speculated that the incident did not happen at random and was pre-planned.
“So it was obvious that this guy was targeted for some reason or another. Maybe he was followed from the bank after making a big withdrawal. This is not a random act,” said Marc Leon.
