KUALA LUMPUR - A Facebook page claiming to be run by fans of Ah Jib Gor aka Prime Minister Najib Razak says it will give away special Chinese paper lanterns to mark the coming Mid-Autumn Festival, more popularly called the Mooncake Festival in Malaysia.
"To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with the Chinese communities in Malaysia, our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Chinese Facebook page (ahjibgor) are giving away special Chinese paper lanterns," the group said in an email circulated to the press.
"The prime minister expressed his appreciation to his fans who have given their support and concern via comments and suggestions throughout the year."
It also said those who wanted the special lanterns would have to "Like" the Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/ahjibgor and submit their full names and addresses while "stocks last".
Still deeply unhappy with Umno-BN
As at press time, a quick check with Najib's Twitter and blog do not show any confirmation of the giveaway
Ah Jib Gor - which literally translates to older brother Ah Jib - was one of the many public relations and imaging stunts launched by Najib's strategists to help him gain favor with the Chinese community.
Complete with cartoon drawings and radio shows, the projects attracted more laughter than praise.
The Chinese community too did not appear to have taken the bait during the recently-concluded general election, where only 8% voted for Najib's Umno-BN coalition.
The rest voted for change, throwing their support behind the Pakatan Rakyat coalition led by Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.
