YOURSAY ‘Hanson wanted Canberra to stop Asians from migrating to Australia.’
'Intruder' remark spot on, say Isma backers
Neo Zypher: This means founder of the Malacca sultanate Parameswara was an intruder too?
What about Dr Mahathir Mohamad? His father was an Indian immigrant. This logic implies that he is the son of an intruder. However, our beloved Tun claims he is constitutionally Malay. Can Isma please explain the inconsistency?
Boonpou: Perhaps the Orang Asli communities should also be stating their ancestors did not welcome the Malays, who after all, came from what is now called China. How far back into history should we argue our cases?
Besides, this racial view of land ownership is absurd, whether in Malaysia or any other countries. Even if the Malays arrived in what is now called Malaysia earlier than the Chinese and Indians, and so on, shouldn’t the latecomers’ contributions to the economy mean something, if not a lot?
Turvy: This country, endowed with all nature's riches and located strategically in this part of the world, will lose it all because of the stupidity of a few of its people.
These few stupid individuals have all gravitated to government and organisations such as the one under discussion (Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia, Isma).
We have to be more vigilant against these stupid people or they will overwhelm everything that is good. Our first prayer should be to deliver us from the stupidity.
David Dass: I am not sure about the relevance of this discussion. Even if we accept the fact that the Malays were here before the Chinese and Indians, it does not follow from that fact that the Chinese and Indians are intruders.
The majority of Chinese and Indians were brought into the country as indentured labour by the British with the approval of the Malay rulers. The Malay rulers were the government of the day.
In fact, the relationship between the Malay rulers and the Indians and Chinese preceded the advent of the British. Chinese came as market gardeners at the invitation of the rulers and there were Indian settlements in the country as well. Many Malay customs and many words in the Malay lexicon came from India.
The Chinese and Indians were not part of a colonising force. They worked initially as coolies and labourers under very harsh conditions for very little money. Many died.
It was only later that Chinese became retailers, tine miners and plantation owners. Moreoever, Indians and Chinese do not question any of the provisions of the Federal Constitution.
War Child: I do not deny that I am a third generation Chinese Malaysian. My paternal grandfather was an economic migrant. My paternal grandmother's family was from an earlier wave of Chinese migrants who fled due to turmoil in China by boat.
The monsoon winds brought their sailing craft to Balik Pulau. Many similar boats landed in Sarawak. Students of Asian history would know that during the Ming period, Admiral Cheng Ho's fleet had landed at Batu Muang where his footprint was carved on a rock which still exist today.
The amazing fact remains that he did not conquer Pulau Pinang or Malacca. I was born in the Straits Settlement of Pulau Pinang which made me a British subject.
As a 15-year-old on Merdeka Day I did not opt to retain my citizenship status due to ignorance. I am happy as I am, although I have been denied of many of my rights as a citizen of Malaysia. I survive despite the odds against me.
Yoong John Yen: Only in Malaysia, your citizenship is as good as a foreign workers' permit when elsewhere, it's a co-ownership of a country of their belonging.
Awakened: Isma President Zaid is trying to be like Pauline Hanson of Australia in 1990s. Pauline formed a party called One Nation and she advocated that Australia belong to the whites and she wanted Canberra to stop Asians from migrating to Australia.
She conveniently forget that the Whites were also migrants. The only difference was that the Whites migrated 200 years earlier. The natives of Australia are the Aborigines.
The Malaysians natives in peninsula are the Orang Asli like Jakuns, Senoi, Sakai and Negritos. The rest are migrants from Indonesia, India, China, who migrated to Malaya centuries ago.
Clever Voter: All these noises are supported by a weak government that has not fulfilled its promises to the people they claim to represent.
It is diverting attention from the real concerns of poor economic performance, declining standards of human capital, increasing public debts, uncontrollable corruption and bribery, etc, using religion and race.
Angry_Voter: Where are the leaders of this lovely nation? If this is allowed to go on soon, there will be racial riot. Perhaps this is what they are hoping to happen after the usual May 13 type of scares fail. Then what, ethnic cleansing?
James1067: Malaysians have to be wise to recognise the wolf in sheep's clothing. There is an agenda here and it looks like the game is played by people with their hidden agenda.
It would be wise not to overreact and let these wolves have their say until they get tired. Do not fall into their trap. Leave the hudud and racial subject alone and wait and see if it is implemented or not. Be wise.
TehTarik: There is little the non-Malays can do about the ultra religious and racial extremism that is sweeping across the country. But where are the voices of the moderate Malays?
This country is entering into very dangerous waters, and is being deliberately split along racial and religious lines. The bigots are having a field day.
The wealth that the various races have accumulated over the past century was built in an atmosphere of mutual respect and tolerance. All this can disappear in a jiffy, when extremism takes over.
When capital and talent disappear, the price of assets including property and shares can crash. I fear the the non-Malays will walk the talk, and emigrate in large numbers once hudud is introduced.
This is to be expected when the rights and sensitivity of the minority are trampled by religious and racial bigots. It is history repeating itself.
Prudent: These are trolls. They think that now they are the overwhelming majority and with May 13, 1969 to intimidate the minorities. In a few days, we will be commemorating that tragic incident.
They have stupefied a lot of Malays but not all. Middle Malaysia consisting of all non-racist Malaysians will fight back. These trolls are in the minority but purposely given a brazen voice by Umno. -Mkini
