Dig deep to find anti-DAP culprits, says Hisham

Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein has demanded to find those responsible for Umno Youth's violent protest at DAP's headquarters this week and those who threatened to burn it down.

"I will advise them to investigate. Don't go on emotions, probe as deep as possible to find out who the perpetrator was," he said, adding that it is not proper for Umno Youth to threaten arson.

He warned that with potential misinformation on the internet, the situation could escalate if emotions run high.

"We don't need to look at an incident very far away, just look at our northern neighbour and the incident in Vietnam lately where the Vietnam and China ships clashes led to bodies spreading on the street," said the Umno vice president and former Umno Youth chief while campaigning in Teluk Intan today.

He was referring to the recent military coup in Bangkok and the wave of deadly anti-Chinese riots that swept Vietnam following a maritime skirmish between Vietnamese and Chinese vessels.

Hishammuddin was responding to the protest led by Federal Territory Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Mohd Rafii outside DAP's headquarters on Thursday, where protestors tore down the party's billboard and threatened to torch the building.

It is one of a series of events in response to DAP's Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer'srefusal to apologise for his "celaka Umno" (damned Umno) remark at the Penang assembly when referring to another protest led by Umno leaders in January where DAP was accused of instigating the May 13, 1969 violence.

Just the day before, Umno members stormed the Penang state assembly looking for Rayer, and yesterday a group claiming to be Umno members pelted eggs and laid flying kicks at DAP's Kuantan office.

A DPM condoning violence?

Separately, Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia (Hindraf) said it is "appalled" and "deeply concerned" about Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's statement that Umno's Youth's arson threat is a "natural reaction".

"It is rather surprising that the number two leader of the country is justifying the actions of his party members.

"Umno members have committed a crime punishable under the criminal laws, but looks like the deputy prime minister is protecting his members and sending the wrong signals to the royal police department not to take action.

"Are Umno members living on ‘bandit territory'?" said its chairperson P Waythamoorthy in a statement today.

He said Muhyiddin's response does not reflect well on Malaysia abroad.

"How would the world leaders perceive a deputy prime minister who seems to condone violence?

"It is also surprising the home minister has remained inaudible on such a gross act of criminal intimidation when ordinary citizens could be arrested and charged for the flimsiest accusations," he added.

Umno's license to wreak havoc?

Meanwhile, Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng (below) lamented the lack of legal action against the violent protests.

"With this trend of attacks without any legal action, we see there is a possibility that the group has a ‘huge license' to cause chaos without any possibility of legal action.

"With such a license, where would Umno Youth target next for their violent riots," he said in a separate statement today.

He urged Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to intervene and rein in his party's members.

Meanwhile, four days after the first incident, Najib who is presently abroad posted on hisFacebook early this morning calling on Umno members not to act "irresponsibly" and preserve the party's "good name".

However in the brief posting he did not call for any action to be taken.
