Police allegedly assaulted a man in Muar Tuesday when he refused to be admitted to hospital, after seeking follow-up treatment for an earlier head injury.
Azzrul Syah Mohd Amin, 24, claimed that the officers assaulted him in a police patrol car resulting in injuries to his eyes and back.
According to his police report lodged at the Muar police station today, the officers had “grabbed (him) by the neck” and “dragged” him into the car where he was “punched” in the face.
“When I was in the patrol car, (one of the officers) elbowed my back. Then (the other officer) punched my face.
“He then dragged me to the psychiatric ward and forced my admittance,” he said of the incident which happened at about 8pm.
He alleged that he was only released from the psychiatric ward at Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah Muar at 6pm the next day.
“Because of the incident, I now have difficulty eating and I have pain in my eyes, back and head. I would like to know why police did this to me and for the matter to be probed,” he said.
Lift to the bus station
Azzrul Syah, whose eyes appear swollen from the claimed assault lodged the police report with assistance by Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa(below).
The complainant also appeared to have bruises on his neck.
According to the report Azzrul Syah had initially willfully entered the patrol car after he first left the hospital upon refusing to be warded.
He said he asked the police officers for a lift to the Muar bus station, but was refused.
“I then heard a hospital worker tell the police officer that I am a psychiatric patient,” he said.
He said when the police did not entertain his request for a lift, he got out of the patrol car and started walking to the bus station.
“The patrol car then tailed me and two police officers alighted from the car,” he said, recalling what happened prior to the alleged assault.
