The Selangor government has denied a New Straits Times report that water from former mining ponds now being pumped into Sungai Selangor is toxic.
Selangor executive councillor in charge of infrastructure Yunus Hairi said that the treated water sourced from the ponds tested as safe for use by the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas).
He also said that a Chemical Department analysis found that the plumbum content in all the pools tapped for water is under permissable levels, and not 460 percent higher than limits as reported.
"The state will always prioritise the people's safety and will never compromise (on this)," he said at a press conference.
Luas director, Md Khairi Selamat, who also addressed the media today said the agency “will not hesitate to take legal action” against the daily.
