'Why doesn't Dyana ask for Utar's closure?'

DAP's Teluk Intan candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud's bold remarks over bumiputera-only admittance into Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) has quickly become fodder in BN's campaign against her.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Umno supreme council member Razali Ibrahim (left) accused her of double standards for harping on UiTM, but not on MCA-founded Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar), which largely attracts students of a single race.

"If she is willing to question the policy of UiTM, which gives priority to the intake of Malay students, why doesn't she ask for Utar, which is monopolised by one race, to be closed down?" he is quoted as asking by Bernama.

Razali, who is also deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department also took Dyana to task for allegedly questioning the use of the word 'Malay' in birth registration papers.

He said that by raising this, and at the same time seeking more national-type Chinese schools, the UiTM law graduate is being "definitely unfair".

The national news agency also quoted him as saying that Dyana must prove herself by challenging DAP leaders who question Malay rights, the purported social contract and the federal constitution.

Otherwise, he said, the 27-year-old will only be a pawn to create racial tension within society.

Dyana (right) had last year called on an institution of higher learningsimilar to UiTM to be set up for non-bumiputera, so as to return to its founding principle of providing opportunity to those deprived of it.

Although Utar attracts many Chinese students, admittance to the private university is open to all.
