PETALING JAYA: Chiropractic centres have resumed operations after being shut for two months due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Association of Chiropractic Malaysia vice-president Wong Yi Kai said most of the practitioners were back in action by the first week of this month after getting the green light from the health ministry.
He said the new guidelines allowed for physical contact and face-to-face consultation.
Practitioners have to be dressed in disposable gowns which have to be changed after each session, use disposable gloves, a three-ply mask, and a face shield when in contact with patients.
Equipment such as treatment tables, chairs and other pain-relief modalities have to be disinfected after each patient.
“We recognise the importance of the SOPs and will not take them for granted,” said Wong, adding the guidelines were well received by patients.
He advised chiropractic centres to get their letter of approval through the international trade and industry ministry’s Covid-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) 3.0.
Chiropractic centres were deemed a non-essential service and ordered to halt operations on June 1 when the nationwide lockdown was enforced.
The association had appealed for the centres to be reopened as the absence of treatment had caused the condition of many patients, suffering from ailments such as nerve entrapment, disc injury and other serious disorders, to regress.
Wong said during the first two months of the lockdown, chiropractors were limited to tele-consultation and video calls. - FMT
