An MCA leader has suggested that vaccination status not only be stored on the MySejahtera app but also on identification cards.
Party central committee member Lau Chin Kok said this would help those who don't have a smartphone but need to prove that they are vaccinated.
"The vaccination card given at vaccination centres is a hassle to keep and is easily damaged or lost.
"Furthermore, storing the certificate in MyKad will prevent scammers and irresponsible parties from taking advantage by selling fake certificates," Lau said in a statement.
The government had recently announced relaxed rules for those fully vaccinated, including allowing inter-district and dine-in at states that are in Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan or beyond.
There have been concerns regarding the enforcement of this.
Online marketplaces have already started offering services to print Covid-19 digital certificates on a card.
In Penang, police had recently asked the public to prepare a screenshot of their MySejahtera vaccination certificate.
Both situations have raised concerns about certificates being faked and abused by those who have not been vaccinated.
At present, elderly folk and dependents without smartphones have their vaccination records stored in the phones of their children or caretakers. - Mkini
