PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil has denied that the Pakatan Harapan coalition issued a statement purportedly offering its Youth chief post to Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
Fahmi (above) issued the denial to the media this morning after the fake statement was widely circulated on social media last night.
The statement claimed a monthly meeting was held virtually by the Harapan presidential council and was joined by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, where they discussed cooperation between the opposition bloc and Umno.
The statement then claimed during the meeting, Harapan president Anwar Ibrahim agreed to Zahid's suggestion that Umno's Youth chief Asryaf Wajdi Dusuki be appointed as Harapan Youth chief.
The Harapan Youth chief position is currently vacant after Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin died from Covid-19 on Aug 6.
Rumours of cooperation between Harapan and Umno have intensified early this year as Anwar had a meeting with Umno figures in March.
As both parties are now pressuring the embattled Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to step down, many are speculating possible cooperation between Harapan and Umno as no single MP in Parliament currently commands a majority.
Mixed messages have been coming out from Harapan and Umno leaders regarding the issue, with the Umno supreme council previously stating its position to not work with Anwar or DAP, only to have its president Zahid later seemingly toning down his party's rhetoric. - Mkini
