Kluang MP is now TalentCorp chairperson

Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi has been appointed as the new chairperson of Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd's (TalentCorp), effective today.

The announcement on the DAP lawmaker's and other key figures' appointments to TalentCorp was made by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim.

It is worth noting that Wong (above) is also the deputy chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and sits on the board of the think tank, Research for Social Advancement (Refsa).

"The newly appointed board of directors will bring fresh and innovative ideas to develop Malaysia's talent ecosystem.

"The appointments reflect TalentCorp's continued relevance as the strategic think tank of the Human Resources Ministry which is dedicated to attracting, nurturing and retaining Malaysian talents to continue progressing in a rapidly developing landscape due to the future of employment and increasing globalisation," said Sim in a statement.

Wong's deputy will be Khuzzan Abu Bakar, a former Johor state executive councillor and ex-Semerah assemblyperson (PKR).

Other new board members include Umno's former Ketereh MP Alwi Che Ahmad, human resources secretary-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud and former Malaysia Youth Council president Julfitri Joha.

Among others, TalentCorp is tasked with increasing the availability of high-skilled human capital in Malaysia.

This includes bringing back overseas Malaysians who have accumulated skills and experience in certain critical occupation sectors under the Returning Experts Programme (REP).

In addition, the agency also brings highly skilled non-Malaysians into the country through the processing of expatriate work visas via their one-stop Malaysia Expatriate Services Centre (MyXpats Center).

Talentcorp also has the responsibility of upgrading the quality of human capital currently existing in Malaysia. It focuses on the area of internships so that it doesn’t overlap with HRD Corp in the training and upskilling of workers who are currently in the workforce. - Mkini
