PETALING JAYA: The Kelantan Implementation Coordination Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department is confident of meeting the prime minister’s directive to eradicate hardcore poverty in the state before July 2.
Kelantan development director Jasri Kassim said the unit successfully reduced the number of heads of hardcore poor households from 12,270 to just 16 between the end of last year and now.
Speaking to reporters in Tunjong, Kelantan, today, Jasri said the unit’s efforts included collaboration with various federal government agencies, as well as projects and initiatives to get people out of hardcore poverty.
He said these programmes included job-matching initiatives in collaboration with the Social Security Organisation to help heads of households secure employment and improve family income.
“We are currently working to provide job opportunities to the 16 remaining heads of hardcore poor households,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
Earlier, 70 heads of households received donations of fresh meat and food baskets in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had on May 2 urged the federal and state government agencies to eradicate hardcore poverty in Kelantan within two months. - FMT
