Raub police chief Shahril Abdul Rahman said stern action would be taken against anyone attending the gathering as the organisers did not obtain permission from the owner of the venue, as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
He said police were notified about the event by its organisers last week, but the notification did not comply with the 10-day notice period stipulated by the Act.
“We also received objections from local residents, including the venue owner and the Raub district council. Considering all these factors, the event has not been approved.
he told Bernama.Action will be taken against anyone who disregards this and participates in the gathering,
The Save Musang King Alliance (Samka) had said the gathering aimed to draw attention to the difficulties faced by Raub durian farmers, and demand that authorities lease land to farmers for planting and selling durians.
Samka claimed that since a judicial review application by 186 durian farmers over an eviction notice by the Pahang government in 2020 was rejected by the Kuantan High Court in April, Raub farmers have been facing pressure and disruptions from the state government, consortiums and enforcement agencies. - FMT
