The Prime Minister’s Department is still waiting for proposals, including from the unity government secretariat, to amend and improve the anti-party hopping legislation, according to law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said.

The Pengerang MP said amendments to the law could be made but they must be communicated to her department first.

Many leaders acknowledge that the act has some flexibility, which is important … but my personal view is that there should be a ‘recall bin’ if an MP switches parties after taking the oath,
she said without expanding on the recall bin mechanism.

On July 15, Azalina was reported to have said that amendments to the Constitution (Amendment) (No. 3) Act 2022, commonly known as the anti-party hopping act, needed to be discussed and agreed upon on a bipartisan basis. - FMT
