Wan Fayhsal to contest for Bersatu supreme council post

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal announced that he would contest for a supreme council seat in the upcoming party polls scheduled for next month.

The Machang MP said he made the decision as he had crossed the age limit for the youth chief post.

“I will go one step further (to contest for a supreme council post) with other members as we have breached the age limit,” he said at a press conference held at the Perikatan Nasional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

The age limit for the post is capped at 35.

Having said that, Wan Fayhsal (above) said he would endorse Bersatu Youth permanent chairperson Akmal Zahin Zainal Zahir as his successor, with wing assistant secretary Faiz Rahmad becoming the deputy chief.

“The decision was made following a meeting with Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin and vice-president Ronald Kiandee.

“And we would also endorse other youth members who have become YBs (elected representatives) to higher posts and help them win (in the party polls),” he added.

Unhappy with MOU

Wan Fayhsal expressed his displeasure over how talks between the government and the opposition are going, regarding securing allocations for their constituencies.

The Bersatu leader also stated that he cannot speak about the matter for now and that party secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin would issue a statement on the party’s stand soon.

“I was issued a gag order (on the matter) but personally, I’m not happy.

“I feel the government is not sincere in helping those in need, like my constituents.

“The states with the most Malays such as Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis are sidelined but those run by DAP get favourable treatment,” he claimed.

PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan

On Sept 2, PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan decried the government’s decision to lay out seven conditions in exchange for financial allocation for its MPs.

This includes not delving into issues pertaining to 3R (religion, race and royalty) and obligating all PN MPs to declare their assets to the government.

Takiyuddin also pointed out that no allocation amount was indicated in the draft agreement.

A day later, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof clarified that the government did not disclose the allocation amount in the draft agreement because the opposition had yet to agree to the terms of the agreement.

He also urged the bloc concerned to air their grievances through the right channel, namely by consultation, rather than through the media. - Mkini
