The police will summon Bloomberg over a statement by former Umno supreme council member Isham Jalil.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said the MACC lodged a police report following Isham’s statement urging Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to sue the US-based news agency.
“So far we have taken the testimony of two people, namely the complainant (MACC) and Isham.
“Some individuals will also be called, especially from Bloomberg in the near future,” he said as reported by Sinar Harian.
He added that the investigation is being carried out under Section 500 and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Isham, who was summoned by the police for questioning yesterday, stood by his stance that the prime minister should sue Bloomberg if its report was untrue.
Last month, Bloomberg released a report citing three unnamed sources who claimed Anwar had ordered MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki not to investigate the prime minister’s former political secretary Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak over the latter’s purchase of shares in HeiTech Padu Bhd.
The technology services provider is linked to the development of a new immigration system costing RM1 billion.
In March, reports claimed that Farhash allegedly invested nearly RM40 million in HeiTech Padu, after the company was shortlisted for the government contract. - Mkini
