SENSE of entitlement. Well, some just think they are deserving of it.
That seems to be the message that the scion of disgraced former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak is preaching.
In a video clip broadcast on #UMNONow, Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin Najib is seen to argue that his father deserves some form of clemency in the shape of house arrest.
Why? For the deeds of his grandfather Tun Abdul Razak Hussein who “fought tooth and nail for the country”.
The fruits of his struggle which according to Nazifuddin began even before independence, can be felt and enjoyed by all Malays today.
From GLCs (government-linked companies to Felda), the grandson believes that the deeds of his grandfather allowed at least for some leeway in the case of Najib’s 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Bhd) scandal.
The clip was shared on the X platform by pro-Madani influencer Roman Akromovic (@SyedAkramin) who was left speechless and dumbfounded at the UMNO Langkawi division’s head’s warped sense of entitlement.
“Rubbish!” was his simple retort.
Roman Akromovic’s post which has been viewed 973.6K times at the time of writing elicited plenty of comments. Many were just as appalled by Nazifuddin’s exhortations. Do the deeds of the Tun Razak allow his future generations to steal from the rakyat?
Some were, however, transfixed by Nazifuddin’s lack of a neck in the video.
With one saying that what Najib did was quite the opposite to what Tun Abdul Razak accomplished.
Some commenters reminded that it wasn’t just Najib’s robbery that enraged citizens but the various family member’s unpaid taxes as well with one suggesting that perhaps they should pay back the taxes owed double or three-fold.
While another reminded Nazifuddin that Najib himself had stated that it was unpatriotic to NOT pay taxes.
For the record, the Kuala Lumpur High Court has set Jan 6, 2025 to hear the appeal by Najib and Nazifuddin to stay bankruptcy proceedings against them for failing to settle RM1.69 biln and RM37.6 mil in tax arrears respectively.
The Federal Court had on Oct 16, 2023 ruled that Najib and Nazifuddin must settle the unpaid taxes after dismissing their appeal to quash the High Court’s decision against them.
Quite a few commenters quoted religious examples in contending why there should be no special privileges for the scion of Tun Abdul Razak.
It is incredible that the 41-year-old businessman felt that this was indeed acceptable or even be considered, perhaps indicating what is wrong within the core of UMNO itself.
The sentiment was clear. Nobody should be above the law.
