Govt announces 50pct toll discount for Class 1 vehicles for CNY

The government announced that a 50 percent toll discount will be given to users of Class 1 private vehicles on Jan 27 and 28 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year.

The discount, however, will not apply to vehicles at border crossing points - namely the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) Toll Plaza on the North-South Expressway (Plus) and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Second Route of the Malaysia-Singapore Expressway (Linkedua).

The discount will take effect from 12.01am on Monday, Jan 27, until 11.59pm on Tuesday, Jan 28.

Putrajaya announced the discount following today’s cabinet meeting, estimating a financial implication of RM20.08 million to compensate the highway concessionaires involved.

In a statement today, Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said this initiative is a continuation of the government’s tradition of providing festive season toll assistance for the four major festivals in Peninsular Malaysia since 2023.

He stated that RM356.18 million has been spent on compensations for festive season toll assistance over this period.

"Previously, based on a cabinet decision from Dec 20, 2024, I announced that festive toll relief would end with Christmas 2024.

"However, today’s cabinet meeting decided to extend a 50 percent discount for Chinese New Year 2025, in line with the Madani government’s agenda of fostering unity and well-being,” he added.
