PAS and Bersatu, both partners in the Perikatan Nasional opposition coalition, are building their case against the DAP with added pressure on the authorities to act against two Pakatan Harapan ministers.
A total of 69 police reports were lodged against the Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming for a Christmas party in the ministry’s offices late last year.
The police will soon record a statement from Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh regarding her book, Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey, following over 100 police reports claiming it threatens national security.
Non-governmental organisations have called for the book to be banned by the Home Ministry. City deputy police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob confirmed 157 reports have been filed nationwide including in Negeri Sembilan, Pahang and Selangor.
Now, a Malaysian organisation, Anak Malaysia, has urged the police to act against Nga and Yeoh, accusing them of causing confusion about Islam and subtly promoting Christian evangelism.
Anak Malaysia chairman Muhamad Rosharizan Mohd Rozlan stated that both leaders have caused confusion regarding Islam and subtly propagated Christian evangelism.
“Dozens of police reports have been lodged nationwide, expressing opposition to the two DAP leaders currently serving as ministers in the Cabinet,” he said in a statement.
The controversy includes Yeoh’s book Becoming Hannah, alleged to contain Christian proselytisation and public Christmas celebrations on government premises, which reportedly violate Islamic guidelines and fatwas.
Anak Malaysia also cited perceived delays in police action compared to swift enforcement against opposition figures.
Meanwhile, the Bersatu Youth information chief Harris Idaham Rashid asked whether some statements in Yeoh’s book reflect the stance of DAP.
“One matter that needs to be investigated is whether the statement reflects the stance of DAP, as politicians usually do not act beyond their party’s framework.
“If the police find that it violates DAP’s principles, then DAP must be banned as a political party in the country,” he is quoted as saying.
Harris referred to statements in Yeoh’s book Becoming Hannah, claiming it contains evangelical Christian elements that may contravene Malaysia’s multi-religious norms and laws. He questioned if Yeoh’s actions reflect the stance of her party, DAP, suggesting the party could face legal repercussions if found in violation of the Federal Constitution. — Focus Malaysia
