Fire damages classrooms at SK Selekoh in Bagan Datuk

BAGAN DATUK: A fire damaged several classrooms at SK Selekoh here today.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Sabarodzie Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call at 3.57pm regarding a fire at the school, located along Jalan Datoh, Kampung Sungai Haji Mohamad.

"A fire engine from the Hutan Melintang Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched immediately and arrived at the scene at 4.11pm.

"The fire involved a Class B building block housing three rooms.

"The blaze caused 50 per cent damage to the Visual Arts classroom, 30 per cent damage to the Design and Technology classroom and 90 per cent damage to a sports equipment storeroom.

"The fire was successfully brought under control at 5.03pm and fully extinguished by 5.46pm," he said.

He said firefighters carried out suppression work using the RECEO firefighting concept, deploying a 400ft (121.92m) hose line with two nozzles supplied by the fire engine's water tank.

"A total of five personnel were involved in the operation. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported," he said.

He said the cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.  - NST
