Worker caught recycling left over food in Mamak restaurant

NOWADAYS, it is some sort of a luxury for people to be able to enjoy home cooked meals. If only we know the things that happen behind the restaurant in the kitchen. Every Malaysian would start picking up cooking as a skill.

Ignorance is bliss as we enjoy our delicious meal without realising the unhygienic condition in which our meals have been prepared.

But sometimes the veil is being pulled back and we catch a glimpse of what happens behind our back. And it is not a pretty sight indeed.

In a recent video post on X by netizen @dahfollowbelum, a worker in a Mamak restaurant could be seen doing the unthinkable.

The video can also be found at: https://x.com/dahfollowbelum/status/2018661208442954132?s=20

He was washing the plates left behind by the diners, and picking up the meat and vegetables which had not been eaten. These were placed on a platform directly above the sink, to be dried and recycled anew.

In other words, the appetising morsel floating inside the curry gravy you consume might be something picked up from the sink.  Feel like vomiting? We won’t be surprised if you do.

“Not surprised. Weak enforcement nation. That is why they are brave,” said netizen @axphalt in the comment section.

Another netizen said maybe he was recycling the food for himself. This is a valid point since the video did not show him putting the meat back into the gravy or curry.

Also, @BigLxxx identified the restaurant, saying that its name starts with an “R” and that it was located at the Kemayan Square, fronting the Palm Mall.

On another note, @Forfoxach3 believed that if a Mamak did not sell beef, that is a “Mamak Celup” as in Hindus moonlighting as Muslims.

@bbyyammmm further pointed out that the Thai shops out there are even more unhygienic with the rats running all over the floor. So why are the Mamak restaurants being singled out like this?

A cautious @ajutz86 added that this was not the case with every Mamak restaurant. He said he would buy from a Mamak shop where every part of the restaurant is accessible and transparent to the customers. At times, he even stands at the back there talking to the customers so he can watch them work.

Take it from @ajutz86 who does a little inspection work before patronising a restaurant. This is something we can all learn from. Either that or we can just enjoy our meals in peace, not knowing what happens behind the restaurant. Ignorance is bliss.

And at times, the price of bliss is a very painful stomach ache or diarrhea thanks to food poisoning. —Focus Malaysia
