Ab Rauf Yusof insists on holding the state election this year despite calls from Umno and DAP leaders to postpone it.

He said under the state constitution, the current administration’s term would end in December, Bernama reported. This means the state election must be held by February 2027 at the latest.
“I do not see any need to postpone the election, as there is insufficient basis to support such a proposal,” Rauf was quoted as saying.
Umno Supreme Council member Ahmad Maslan had floated the idea of delaying the Melaka and Johor state elections in light of global geopolitical uncertainties.
Melaka DAP chief Khoo Poay Tiong supported the proposal, saying the state government could declare an emergency to delay the election.
However, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Ahmad was only expressing his personal view and that the party did not share the same position on the matter.
In March, Rauf said the state election was expected within six months, ahead of the state assembly’s term ending on Dec 30. - FMT
