ANYONE WHO grew up with the lesson-filled stories of the classical world would come across the life of Androcles, who removed a thorn from the paw of an injured lion.
It ended in a happy ending and hopefully, the same can be said to this story that has been circulating across the cyberspace.
In a video post by netizen @1hakankapucu, a staff from Caltex could be seen removing a splinter from the paw of a stray dog.
This is no lion from the dramatic story of Androcles, but better, since it is very much rooted in reality. Also, the small gesture did not go unnoticed among the netizens who heaped praises over him.
“Prioritizing an injured stray over his shift shows incredible character. We need to celebrate these quiet heroes who extend empathy to all living beings,” said netizen @EcoLifeHannah.
“He’s a healer not a gas station worker. God bless him and may they both live wonderful happy lives,” added @AcroAman.

Also, @Phuti33912114 tagged SPCA in the comment, urging them to take the worker in as a caretaker.

“Hopefully he takes him home too,” said @SinghB4pyzsp7rv. But not everyone was quickly taken in by this story.
According to @AR41963, the dog might not be a stray since it had a collar around its neck.
Then there was @LadyRuthPearce wondering if the man let the dog loose right after fixing it.

The brief video did not inform if the animal finally received a forever home and a warm family, but the comments later pointed out that the video could have been shot in either Thailand or the Philippines.
Regardless, we can only hope the gesture of kindness is but the beginning for the poor animal and its new found friend.
More than just a story, it should also serve as an inspiration for people to treat the voiceless stakeholders of this planet with more love. — Focus Malaysia
