Members 'no longer aligned' with party's struggle can leave - PKR veep

PKR vice-president Amirudin Shari has advised members or leaders who felt they were no longer aligned with the party’s struggles to leave.

However, the Gombak PKR chief told reporters after the division’s annual general meeting today that his opening remarks were not aimed at any member, including former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli.

“It is not directed at any specific individual - anyone who feels they are no longer aligned with the party’s direction is welcome to leave the organisation,” the Selangor menteri besar said.

Amirudin clarified that the general advice was meant to ensure that all leaders and members remain focused on the party’s mandate, without disrupting internal stability.

“Priority must be given to the party’s broader agenda rather than personal polemics that could affect the organisation’s image in the eyes of the public,” he added.

On April 10, Rafizi urged PKR leaders to sack him if the party deems him in violation of disciplinary rules, following its decision to serve him with a second show-cause letter.

Rafizi also shared his response to the PKR disciplinary board’s April 9 letter, which outlined several alleged infractions that had supposedly tarnished the party’s name.

Commenting further, Amirudin recalled how PKR, through support from loyal grassroots, had survived episodes of “betrayal” by former senior leaders.

“History has shown that individuals may come and go, but the organisation will remain standing firm as long as its core principles are not compromised,” said Amirudin, who alluded to the departure of then PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and a group of MPs to join Bersatu as part of the 2020 Sheraton Move.

Party discipline essential

Amirudin reiterated his belief in PKR’s growth from the strength of its members, united under the leadership of party president Anwar Ibrahim, as well as PKR’s advisory council chairperson Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

“The moral strength and unity among members are the main defence in facing any threats of sabotage, whether from within or outside the party,” he stressed.

Amirudin further reminded that every individual with responsibilities in the party must carry out their duties with full dedication, without prioritising personal interests or agendas.

“Any dissatisfaction should be channelled through the proper internal mechanisms in accordance with the party constitution, rather than through open attacks that only benefit the opposition.

“Party discipline is a non-negotiable element to ensure that all political efforts proceed smoothly and effectively,” he said.

No formal talks

Separately, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said there have so far been no formal discussions on Rafizi’s alleged attacks against the party.

“We leave it to the secretary-general (Fuziah Salleh) to handle.

“There were internal processes, but no (related) discussions. Not yet,” said Fahmi, who earlier launched the Gombak PKR annual general meeting.

The communications minister also repeated Anwar’s reminder to all PKR leaders in power not to abandon their grassroots. - Mkini
