SOUTH-EAST ASIA (Bernama): Muslim World League (MWL) Secretary-General Sheikh Dr Mohammad Al-Issa has praised Malaysia as a source of inspiration in efforts to strengthen the Islamic agenda at the international level.
Al-Issa, who also chairs an international body of Muslim scholars, said this is reflected in Malaysia’s continued commitment, along with its people, in supporting and advancing various Islamic programmes in collaboration with the MWL.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Iman and Science Competition, he said such initiatives-organised in partnership with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia-demonstrate a coordinated effort to strengthen Muslims’ connection with the Quran through recitation, understanding and appreciation of its values.
"The Muslim World League consistently strives to strengthen Quranic values among younger generations worldwide. Malaysia is a very special country, as its people possess a strong sense of faith and deep love for the Quran,” he said in his keynote address at the event here on Sunday.
Al-Issa also expressed appreciation for the Malaysian government’s support, particularly Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in ensuring the success of the initiative, which he described as reflecting a shared commitment to advancing Islamic values globally.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan said programmes centred on the Quran and knowledge serve as an important platform for integrating faith and learning.
He noted that such initiatives not only nurture Islamic values among participants but also bridge divine revelation with the development of modern knowledge in a balanced manner.
Malaysia, he added, will continue to support programmes that promote moderation and harmony, while strengthening a proper understanding of Islam.
He also conveyed appreciation to the MWL, particularly Al-Issa, for its continued efforts to advance knowledge and faith through international platforms.
The competition, held via the "Iman & Science Malaysia” Facebook platform throughout the month of Ramadan, is among MWL’s initiatives to expand cooperation and mutual understanding among nations, while reinforcing humanitarian values and promoting Islam as a source of mercy for all mankind. -- Bernama
