Henry Tan has been appointed as interim GCEO pending the appointment of a suitable successor.

The content and entertainment company said it had appointed Henry Tan as interim GCEO with effect from June 16, 2026 while it seeks a suitable successor for Smith.
Tan previously served as Astro’s GCEO from February 2019 to January 2023, it said in a statement with Bursa Malaysia today.
“Tan will provide overall leadership to the company and be responsible for its performance and operations, supported by Astro’s executive leadership team.
“Smith will continue to provide technical advisory assistance or support to the board until Dec 6, 2026,” it said.The company also expressed appreciation to Smith for his leadership and contributions over the past six years, and wished him the best in his future endeavours.
According to Astro’s filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Smith holds 2.96 million shares, representing 0.057% of total issued shares in Astro.
He also has an interest in over 48.35 million unissued ordinary shares under the company’s long-term incentive plan through performance share awards.
In a separate filing, Astro said its securities trading was halted from 9am today. It resumed at 10am.
Astro’s shares closed at six sen last Friday, with a market capitalisation of RM313.55 million. - FMT
