Ex-Perlis reps confirmed SD plot to oust MB, says PAS

PAS information chief rebuffs Bersatu's insistence that no such plot existed, warns that 'trust, once broken, is hard to rebuild'.

PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (left) said he does not doubt Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin’s sincerity in the letter he sent to the PAS leadership, but ‘actions speak louder than words’.
PETALING JAYA:
Three former Perlis assemblymen from PAS had confirmed signing statutory declarations with their Bersatu counterparts to oust then menteri besar Shukri Ramli in December 2025, says a senior PAS leader.

Rebuffing Bersatu’s insistence that no such plot existed, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the Islamic party held its own investigation into the events that culminated in Shukri resigning as menteri besar in December.

“Our investigation found that this plot existed, based on the admissions of the three former PAS assemblymen, witnessed by the entire PAS central committee and Perlis PAS leadership,” he said in a Facebook post.

Fadhli also questioned Bersatu’s hastiness in submitting Kuala Perlis assemblyman Abu Bakar Hamzah’s name as its candidate for the menteri besar’s post, without waiting to hold discussions with PAS.

He said there was no guarantee that Bersatu would not repeat its actions in the future when it comes to other menteri besar or even prime minister candidates.

“Right now, I do not see such guarantees. Excuses can always be found afterwards. What’s important for some parties is to obtain the position and be sworn in first, and then explain their actions later on,” he said.

Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), and Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji) had their PAS memberships terminated after withdrawing support for Shukri.

Their seats were vacated after the Perlis assembly speaker ruled that their terminations did not amount to dismissals.

On Saturday, Saad, Fakhrul and Ridzuan said they were waiting for their applications to rejoin the party to be approved.

Shukri resigned on Dec 25, citing health reasons, and Abu Bakar was sworn in as menteri besar three days later.

Fadhli was responding to a letter from Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin to the PAS leadership, in which he reiterated that Bersatu had never betrayed PAS by moving to oust Shukri.

Muhyiddin also touched on efforts to unseat Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun in April, when 14 Umno assemblymen retracted support for the PKR vice-president.

After the Umno assemblymen were ordered to continue backing Aminuddin, Muhyiddin said Bersatu wanted to retract its statement backing Umno to form a new state government, but PAS was non-responsive.

‘Trust, once broken, is hard to rebuild’

Fadhli argued that there was no urgent need for Perikatan Nasional to decide whether or not to retract their statement backing Umno since a new state government would not be formed in any case.

The Pasir Mas MP said the two episodes in Perlis and Negeri Sembilan had left a deep impact on the level of trust between the PN allies.

While he did not doubt Muhyiddin’s sincerity in the letter he sent to the PAS leadership, Fadhli argued that “actions speak louder than words”.

“The relationship can continue. The cooperation can be strengthened again. But trust is a whole other matter. Trust, once broken, is hard to rebuild.

“In my opinion, whatever decision is made by PAS (on its relationship with Bersatu) would surely account for the current situation and also the past incidents that have broken the trust we have given Bersatu all this while,” he said. - FMT
