“SABAH has done it. Johor can definitely repeat that. Give 0 to PH (Pakatan Harapan). Don’t give them even an inch of foothold.”
Doubtlessly, Johor will be a second testbed of how daunting it is for the ruling Madani coalition to remain in power beyond the current term or effectively the Johor state election is itself the benchmark for the 16th General Election (GE16) that must be held by Feb 17, 2028.

In fact, the chaotic state of the PH coalition in the wake of the Johor state poll war drum beat was best exposed by Madani critic The Coverage Media following yesterday’s (June 1) announcement of Johor state assembly dissolution by its workaholic Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
That Johor has once again been in the forefront of an early state poll (when it must be held by June 20, 2027) speaks volume of PH under-estimation that Johor is being revived as a traditional UMNO stronghold at grassroots level amid the widespread hatred spewed against DAP.
On May 17 at the PH convention in Johor, Anwar was screaming like a desperate man, warning UMNO to call for elections or he would consider snapping an early General Election.
That same day, (DAP secretary-general) Anthony Loke (Siew Fook) tried to sound tough by threatening to dissolve the Negeri Sembilan state assembly.
Then on May 28, DAPSY (DAP Socialist Youth) came out barking that if UMNO dares to go solo, they will dissolve Parliament together.
What a pathetic circus. Just days later on June 1, Johor MB Onn Hafiz calmly announced the dissolution of the Johor state assembly. No shouting. No drama. No empty warnings. He just silently pressed the button and went all in.
Game over.
‘No rude shock’
Recount that the 2022 or officially the 15th Johor state election was held on March 12, 2022 to elect 56 members to the Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN). The previous DUN session was dissolved on Jan 22, 2022.
The election was initially expected to be held no later than 2023, five years after the 2018 election. However, the Johor DUN was abruptly dissolved amid the 2020-2021 Malaysian political turmoil at the height of the then COVID-19 Movement Control Order (MCO) implementation.
The latest development is no rude shock either but testament of a well calculated move to catch one’s enemy off-guard when the latter is at its most vulnerable state – no longer an epitome of UMNO’s ambition to go solo come GE16 but the time is NOW.
PH has to do better than this tame response to Johor UMNO’s gutsy challenge to declare an early state poll yet again after the 2022 state poll.
“From the beginning, PH had expected BN (Barisan Nasional) to dissolve the DUN in the near future. And it turns out that the DUN session announced to be held on June 22 is ‘not reasonable’ at all,” the Johor level PH coalition pointed out in a media statement.
“In the spirit of democracy, PH will continue with existing preparations to face this election. Johor PH will also extend the discussion to the central PH presidential council level to formulate the next steps.”
For sure PH can forget about sitting on a bed of roses in the run-up to the 16th Johor state poll, so anticipate The Coverage Media:
PH arrogantly dismissed it (the Sabah state election drubbing) as “only in Sabah” by giving endless lame excuses. Now they will get their answer in Johor.
If Sabah 2.0 repeats in Johor – or even worse, spreads further – what pathetic excuses will they vomit out next?
Let’s see how these boastful, delusional and arrogant PH leaders perform when the real test hits.
Empty vessels really do make the most noise. While they were busy shouting and threatening, Onn Hafiz quietly did what they were too scared to do. The bluff has been called. The mask is off.
Will PH pay a costly price for its arrogance? Will Negeri Sembilan be next, Anthony Loke? – Focus Malaysia
