Abu Bakar Hamzah says he has a good relationship with the Perlis PAS leadership.
Abu Bakar said the state government continued to operate in the spirit of Perikatan Nasional solidarity, with policy decisions made collectively through executive council meetings, Utusan Malaysia reported.
He also said he had a good relationship with the Perlis PAS leadership, and that the dispute involved only a group supporting former menteri besar Shukri Ramli.
“The Perlis PAS Youth delegate, who is also Shukri’s son-in-law, should prove the allegations.
“The call for stern action against me is baseless, emotional, and driven by the personal agenda of certain disgruntled parties,” he told reporters at his official residence in Kangar today.
Abu Bakar also explained that the removal or replacement of some political appointees, including councillors, was aimed at improving efficiency and addressing misconduct.
Perlis PAS Youth delegate Ali Na’imi Ahmad Azizi yesterday urged PAS and PN leaders to consider taking stern action against Abu Bakar, who he claimed was tarnishing the coalition’s image in the state.
He said that while Perlis is governed by PN, PAS representatives were allegedly being treated like opposition members.
Ali Na’imi also alleged that the state government had taken arbitrary action against political appointees from PAS, such as the removal of councillors.
Abu Bakar was appointed the ninth menteri besar of Perlis last December, succeeding PAS’s Shukri, who resigned citing health reasons.
The Perlis Bersatu chief’s appointment came amid a political crisis which saw eight PN assemblymen, including five from Bersatu, reportedly submitting statutory declarations to the ruler to withdraw their support for Shukri. - FMT
