PAKATAN Harapan (PH) has declared readiness to contest all 28 seats in the upcoming Melaka state election if necessary.
Acting Melaka PKR chief Adam Adli Abd Halim said the coalition must always be prepared, regardless of whether negotiations with Barisan Nasional (BN) take place.
“Contesting all seats will not be an issue for us, as we have done so before,” he said during the Kampung Angkat Madani programme in Kampung Sungai Putat.
Adam emphasised that PH wants the polls to be a healthy contest, not a source of division.
“Elections should not affect harmony in the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh hinted that the dissolution of the state assembly would happen soon, as its term expires in December.
Speaking at the UMNO General Assembly, Rauf said BN would only begin negotiations after dissolution, stressing that the coalition will defend the 21 seats it currently holds.
He also praised UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s keynote speech, describing it as a clear roadmap for UMNO’s resurgence ahead of 16th General Election.
Speculation continues over possible cooperation between parties, with Rauf noting that BN remains open to partnerships if the people desire it. — Focus Malaysia
