Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the proposal for the rally was mooted by PAS representatives who attended the Umno general assembly yesterday.

He said the proposal for the rally was mooted by PAS representatives who attended the Umno general assembly yesterday.
“They told me that the two parties should work together and hold a gathering aimed at bringing together one million Muslims,” he said, adding that the rally was not political in nature.
Zahid tasked Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh with working with PAS to organise the gathering, beginning at the state level before culminating in a national rally.
The Umno president, who was making his winding-up speech at the general assembly, also spoke of former prime minister Najib Razak’s bid for a pardon of his convictions linked to the 1MDB scandal. Zahid said he hoped the application would be considered at the next Federal Territories Pardons Board meeting.
Yesterday, the board deferred the hearing of Najib’s application to its next meeting. - FMT
